Vestibules at UQAM

Locker rooms always warm and dry at UQAM

UQAM vestibules project

With tens of thousands of students at UQAM, and several entrances in several different buildings, the vestibules require an efficient heating solution that keeps the environment clean and safe, even in Montreal’s harsh winter conditions. The integration of our solution several years ago has reduced the amount of time employees spend cleaning building entrances.

Heating system used

Obviously, the heating system used for the vestibule is our electric infrared heating system. More specifically, these are Fostoria’ s MTM series (available in 600 volts). To integrate the heating units subtly, they were recessed into the ceiling. For best results, these are positioned to perfectly cover the entire floor with the required power per square foot.

To control and modulate the devices, they are powered by a control panel.

How the solution works

Since frequent opening of vestibule doors creates draughts, it is inefficient to heat vestibules with a convection heating solution such as warm air heating. Warm air is immediately lost in draughts, and since warm air tends to rise, the ground is not warm enough to maintain a dry environment, as Infrared does. An infrared heating solution heats the floor directly.
